International Homeless Animals’ Day
Third Saturday of August

Under the organization model of the International Society for Animal Rights

August 20, 2005

Spanish Version

This year Ánima organized the event in honor of International Homeless Animals’ Day in a park called “San Martín” in Mar del Plata city, Province of Buenos Aires.

Ánima focus on the need that all the community has to be involved in the solution related to stray animals that are the “visible victims” of the issue called “homeless animals”.

Ana María Aboglio, lawyer and president of the organization, conducted the event and informed the public about the importance to demand public and efficient spay/neuter programs to control animal companion overpopulation, laws changes –according to Ánima's Bill- that prohibit suffering and killing of dogs and cats with investment in ecological and integral programs for the benefit of humans and non humans animals.

Activists of Ánima distributed educational brochures. Gabriela Romer, Ánima representative in Mar del Plata, read real stories about people emotionally affected because of killed dogs by Municipality of Mar del Plata and Lanus in Buenos Aires Province. Denunciations, stories, music and poems were listened by the public.

Candles were lighted up for all the cats and dogs killed in Municipal centers, poisoned animals or killed in pseudo protectionist shelters around the world.
