Homeless Animals’ Day
|
| Spanish Version |
Third Saturday of August
By organization model of the International Society forAnimal Rights
Ánima -Ethics and animals, commemorated
for its second consecutive year the International
Homeless Animal’s Day, on this last August
16th. The event, that earned the association a special
recognition last year by the ISAR – the International
Society for Animal Rights-, took place in Grigera
Park in Lomas de Zamora, Buenos Aires, where it
was pronounced as being of municipal interest.
Educational material related to the subject was handed out and the aim was to focus on the idea that ALL the community can help solving issues related to stray animals, who are the “visible victims” of the issue called “homeless animals”. Institutionally there was a stress on the need for a political decision regarding pro-animal-life actions, which are urgent in municipalities such as Lomas de Zamora. As usual, the goal was to raise awareness on the need to control the reproduction of companion animals, to avoid over-breeding and to adopt stray animals to provide them with lifelong care and protection, rejecting any kind of slaughter.
DENUNCIATIONS: Throughout the event, the decision of the municipality of Rio Grande, in Tierra del Fuego, of decreeing the capture of dogs with paralyzing darts followed by slaughter in case they are not clamed within 24-48 hours, was fully rejected.
Romina Vitale, who was nominated to the 2002 Gardel Awards, sang, providing through her song’s lyrics a pro-animal-life message. The selected readings for this year performed by the actors of the theatre group “Taller del Sur” (Southern Workshop), directed by Alberto Carrillo, were praised. Ánima awarded three Achievement Awards for pro-animal actions.
At the end there was a closing message and the invitation to the Lighting of the Candles in memory of all the animals slaughtered under the euphemism of “euthanasia” in the municipalities of Rio Grande and Mar del Plata among others.
